In 2023, a total of nearly 359 billion SEK was paid in premiums for pension and life insurance. Out of these, 207 billion SEK were allocated to occupa-tional pension and private pension insurance. This amount is almost equiva-lent to the total contributions made to the national public pension system, which amounted to a total of 225 billion SEK.
Premium payments for pension and life insurance policies have increased by 83 per cent over the past ten years, with private endowment insurance accounting for nearly half (47 per cent) of this growth. Savings in private en-dowment insurance has increased significantly over time, particularly during the years of the pandemic, when reduced travel allowed for higher savings.
